The festive "Schachtag" (traditional miners' gala), held on the occasion of the 2026 Salamander Days in Banská Štiavnica, carried exceptional significance for the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Košice. A key part of the event was the solemn initiation of the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Jozef Živčák, into the metallurgical and mining guilds.

This symbolic act represents not only a deep respect for the rich traditions of mining and metallurgy, but also their preservation and the transmission of historical expertise and values into the present day. It takes on special significance in the context of the merger of the two faculties and the succession of full competencies by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Košice.
